Is there anything more shocking than receiving in the mail a notification of a Federal Tax Lien and a resulting IRS Tax Levy against you? You have to realize that if you do not pay your back taxes, the IRS will file a Federal Tax Lien against you. Without warning, your financial security and the safe future of your family can be placed in doubt. If you fail to take action and protect your assets, setting your finances in order, the IRS can seize and sell your personal property. Such a levying of assets by the IRS often includes more than just a bank levy or a wage garnishment. In addition, your home and your family car can be threatened, placing your future in true jeopardy.

If you have been notified of a Federal Tax Lien filed against you, it means that the IRS has filed a Notice of a Federal Tax Lien with the County Clerk where you reside or in the place where your business operates. Federal Tax Liens are public records that indicate you owe the IRS various taxes. Such a public notice reads: “There is a lien in favor of the United States on all property and rights to property belonging to this taxpayer for the amount of these taxes, and additional penalties, interest and costs that may accrue”.
The filing of tax liens by the IRS has been increasing every year. In only eight years, the number of Federal Tax Liens filed by the IRS quadrupled. In the fiscal year of 1999, the IRS filed 167,867 Tax Liens. In the fiscal year of 2007, the IRS filed 683,659 Federal Tax Liens. A jump from 167,867 to 683,659 in less than a decade is almost beyond comprehension. If you owe back taxes and you believe you can fly under the radar of the IRS, the situation has changed. If you owe back taxes, you could receive a notification of a Federal Tax Lien filed against today if you do not take the right action and call us.
Once a Federal Tax Lien is filed, your tax problems become a matter of public record and will be recorded on your credit report. If you do not address this tax debt, the Federal Tax Lien will not be released. If you do not pay within the time specified in the first notice, the IRS has the right to begin enforcement proceedings. The IRS only considers the removal of a lien in extremely rare cases where they admit they made an error by filing the Notice of Federal Tax Lien in the first place. Once the IRS takes the action of filing a Federal Tax Lien, they expect the tax debt to be settled by you. If you take no action, there will be consequences.

A Federal Tax Lien, however, can be withdrawn if it was filed too soon or not in accordance with IRS regulations, if withdrawing the lien actually speeds up the process of collecting the tax debt, or if withdrawing the lien is determined to be in the best interest of both the taxpayer and the IRS. Remember: these are the rare exceptions to the rule. And the rule is that the IRS will take action against you and your assets until you settle your tax debt. The IRS will only release a Federal Tax Lien when they are fully satisfied that the case has been resolved according to their rules and regulations. As a result, you need a tax expert like Peter Stephan on your side.
If you are a rare exception to the rule, we will know this upon examining your case, and we will have the tax lien removed and your name cleared. In order to find out, you have to call us for a free consultation. A Federal Tax Lien can be released, discharged, subordinated or removed. We can provide you with an answer by negotiating an Offer in Compromise or setting up an Installment Agreement with the IRS. As tax experts with knowledge of the IRS rules and regulations, we can examine your tax situation and propose to you the best solution. Our goal is to end your tax debt nightmare with the IRS and restore your financial freedom.
